I just published Advanced Ads version 1.8 and wanted to give you a heads up on what to expect. There have been some larger changes under the hood and in the interface I am very proud of.
Quicker to your first ad
After some user tests I decided to improve the Wizard with the overall goal to make the process of publishing your first ad more quickly. We removed clutter and unneeded information and will proceed with the next releases.
A quite simple idea was also to add a Dummy ad type. This is simply an image ad, but allows you to create tests quickly without searching for images or default ad codes first.
Technically and from their design, interfaces for group and placement options needed some improvements for a while now. In Advanced Ads 1.8, I layed the groundwork for that. Please make sure to also update all add-ons to the latest versions, so that you can use their options in the latest layout, too.
Improvements to Advertisement-Label
Until now, it was only possible to add a label above all ad positions or none. In version 1.8, we added an option to placements to enable or disable the label specifically for a position. We also improved the code for labels so that they now work with special placements like Sticky or Slider as well.
The changes here have one drawback. When you used a group with ads which are floating in the middle or right in the content, you might want to set the label float setting in the placement (if you used one) or the label might float left.
Control who can see which ads on your Membership-Sites
There are various types of WordPress plugins to set up restricted community and membership areas on your website. One of the most popular solutions for this purpose is the free Paid Memberships Pro.
Advanced Ads Pro now supports this plugin and provides dedicated display and visitor conditions to manage which ads should appear on membership content or which membership levels should see which ads.
Learn more about managing ads on membership pages from this manual page or get the Pro version of Advanced Ads to try it out.
In addition to the ones mentioned above, there are few more new features:
allow to select draft, future and pending posts with the Specific Pages display condition
display an ad based on the age of the post
As always, if you are running into any issues with these changes or have a suggestion to improve their interfaces more, please just reply to this email.
