this newsletter contains information about the following new features in Advanced Ads:
injecting ads with only one click
random order and mouseover-stop for ad slider
tracking of events on external sites
Injecting ads with only one click
In Advanced Ads, managing ads and placing them are separated functions. For those who only have very few ads, this might be overly complicated so I started to better connect those two steps.
When you saved an ad now, you saw just information on how to use it. Starting with version 1.7.3, you can inject the ad automatically into the frontend into a few positions using these icons.
When you click on the first three icons, the ad will automatically be injected into the top, center or end of a paragraph. This function will create placements in the background which you might adjust later.
Random order and mouseover-stop for ad slider
I finished two feature requests for the Slider add-on. The first allows you to set a random order for the ads, like you are used to with the random group type. The ad weight will influence the chance of an ad to be the first here.
The second "feature" was actually working some time before, but got silently removed from the unterlying script of the slider. It will now stop the slide again when you hover over an ad with the mouse.
Since the Slider add-on doesn't come with an automatic update, you need to download the new version from here.
Tracking of events on external sites
If you are active as an affiliate and collect commissions for sales or other events, you would probably want to track sales or other events on the partner website yourself. This feature started as a project for a client and was now integrated into the Tracking add-on.
The event tracker is disabled by default, because it is not needed by many. However, if you find this interesting, be sure to check out this manual.
As always, please reach out to me if you have any question or need help with those changes.
